Owerá
Owerá is the son of Olívio Jekupé, the first Brazilian indigenous writer, and his mother is also a great storyteller. At the opening of the 2014 World Cup, Owerá was selected as the indigenous child to release the white dove that would open the games. At that moment, however, following a plan of his tribal chief, Owerá raised a banner with the words “Demarcation Now,” drawing the world’s attention to the indigenous struggle. As a teenager he published two books telling stories of Guarani cosmology. Owerá started singing rap in Guarani, met Mano Brown, partnered with Criolo, and keeps going, smoking his pipe, living, reinventing himself and writing stories of his people’s traditions.
