Mapuani was born by the Caucho River to the Huni Kuin people. In one of the so-called “rushes,” she moved away from her parents, to work in the home of a non-indigenous family. She married a Frenchman and moved to France not knowing a word of French. She started working as a restaurant assistant and became a chef, and later she decided to return to the forest where she was born. Mapuani was interviewed by the Museum of the Person in 2019.
