Owerá

Owerá is the son of the writer Olívio Jekupé, Brazil’s first indigenous writer, and a great storyteller. During the opening of the 2014 World Cup, he was the indigenous child invited to release the white dove to open the event. However, as part of his chief’s plan, he raised a banner that read “Demarcation Now,” drawing worldwide attention to the indigenous struggle. He published two books during his adolescence, containing stories that embraced Guarani cosmology. He started singing rap in Guarani, met Mano Brown, partnered with Criolo, and continues to live, reinvent, and write the stories of his people’s traditions with his pipe.
